The Resource and Referral department contracts with the California Department of Education, Child Development Division, to help families locate child care and become knowledgeable consumers on what to look for in finding care for their children. Part of a network of resource and referral agencies under the auspices of the California Child Care Resource and Referral Network, the agency is a member of the National Association of Child Care Resource and Referral Agencies (NACCRRA). More than 25,000 families receive referrals annually. The following resources are available free of charge to the public. Free Child Care Referrals—Parents may call the toll free line: 800.481.2151 (San Diego County only)or to talk to a child care consultant about finding care for their child(ren) including smoke-free environments. Bilingual consultants are available in Spanish and Vietnamese. The consultant will interview the parent to find out the ages of the children, the type of care needed, the hours of care, and much more, in order to find the child care that fits the parent's need. The interview is completed when referrals are given to the parent (See Parent Info Center for more details on choosing child care and how the referral process is done). Parent Packets—Parents calling for the first time are sent a packet of information to help them find quality child care. Parents are also informed that they may call the local office of Community Care Licensing, 619.767.2200, to make an appointment to review the history of any providers they are considering for their child's care.
